Yes, it still takes me by surprise to see the word “designer” next to my name. How and when in the hell did I become a designer?
I guess, in a weird way, I have always been one. When I was a little girl, I designed things. Whether it was a new way to style my Barbie’s hair, an amazing work of playdough art, or something fancy in the Easy Bake Oven, I was becoming a designer.
Fast forward to my adult-hood- I created humans. Yes, kids. 6 of them. Each one is incredibly amazing and totally unique and I created them. As they have grown, and I stopped being a baby creator, I guess I felt a need to still offer amazing creations to the world. Kind of fills my yearning to mother things.
Somehow, web and graphic designs have become my new babies. Each design is sort of like a child to me. If you really think about it, the process is similar with a lot less pain. You get an idea, you nurture that idea, develop it and finally-give birth to something new. So in essence, my need to create things went from human beings to things on the web.
Everybody has the ability to design. It doesn’t need to be art.
I come from a long line of creatives, though. My father is an amazing artist who works with pastels and pencils. my mother is a song writer, my Uncle can drum like no other.
These are gifts. I am a firm believer that every single person has their own gift to offer to the world. None are the same. The world would be suckifyably boring if that were the case. See, I may be able to zap up something in Photoshop or on WordPress but I cannot draw a stick figure on paper.
What I am trying to say is that we should all cherish our special gifts and use them to make the world better.
You sing? Sing
Dance? Dance
Draw? Draw
Can you write? Then write dammit.
What is stopping you from delivering your special ability to the world? Self-doubt? Kick it in the knee and do your thing.
